Senior Structural Engineer – Hayward, CA
YourCode Recruitment is partnering with an innovative construction technology and manufacturing organization that is transforming how residential buildings are designed, engineered and produced.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join its engineering team in Hayward, California, working at the intersection of structural engineering, product development, BIM and advanced manufacturing.
This is not a traditional consulting-based structural engineering position.
You will take structural concepts and R&D solutions and turn them into code-compliant, manufacturable and production-ready building systems. Your work will move directly from engineering and BIM environments into factory production and ultimately into completed residential buildings.
The position would particularly suit an engineer with strong experience in Cold-Formed Steel (CFS), light-gauge steel framing, Revit and US structural codes who enjoys seeing their engineering work translated into real-world construction.
The Role
As Senior Structural Engineer, you will take ownership of the integration and delivery of structural systems across residential construction projects.
Working closely with structural, architectural, BIM, mechanical engineering, manufacturing and production teams, you will ensure structural designs can be efficiently manufactured, fabricated and assembled at scale.
You will also provide hands-on engineering support during initial builds, resolving technical challenges and helping bridge the gap between engineering design, manufacturing and construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Integrate structural engineering solutions into project-specific residential floor plans while maintaining structural integrity and design standards.
- Lead structural validation and engineering activities in accordance with relevant US building codes, including IBC, ASCE 7 and AISI S100.
- Prepare structural calculations and supporting engineering documentation.
- Develop and maintain detailed Autodesk Revit models and fabrication-ready engineering documentation.
- Produce and coordinate permit sets, shop drawings and digital production outputs.
- Take ownership of production-ready structural models, drawings and engineering data packages.
- Coordinate structural designs with architectural and MEP systems, identifying and resolving clashes before production.
- Support the transfer of engineering information between BIM/Revit and MCAD/SolidWorks environments.
- Provide real-time structural engineering support during first builds and production activities.
- Investigate engineering and fabrication issues and drive practical resolutions.
- Work closely with BIM, manufacturing and engineering teams to develop standardized structural methodologies, templates and digital assets.
- Support improvements to factory throughput, manufacturability and engineering efficiency.
- Balance engineering accuracy with the speed required within a fast-moving production and manufacturing environment.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for an experienced structural engineer who combines strong technical fundamentals with a practical, production-focused approach.
Essential experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
- Approximately 5–8+ years of professional structural engineering experience.
- Strong structural analysis and design experience.
- Demonstrable experience with Cold-Formed Steel (CFS) and/or light-gauge steel framing.
- Advanced working knowledge of Autodesk Revit.
- Strong understanding of US structural and building codes, including IBC, ASCE 7 and AISI S100.
- Experience preparing structural calculations and engineering packages.
- Understanding of structural coordination across architectural and MEP disciplines.
- Experience producing detailed, coordinated and construction-ready structural documentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve engineering challenges during active production or construction.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with engineering, BIM, manufacturing and factory-based teams.
Desirable Experience
Any of the following would be particularly valuable:
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence or progress towards PE licensure.
- Modular construction, off-site construction or prefabricated building systems.
- Panelized residential construction.
- Residential structural engineering.
- Manufacturing or production engineering environments.
- SolidWorks and PDM systems.
- Automated fabrication or CNC manufacturing workflows.
- Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA).
- Navisworks or advanced BIM clash detection.
- Experience taking structural designs from initial engineering through to fabrication and physical production.
Why Join?
This is an opportunity to move beyond conventional structural design and work within an engineering-led organization combining construction, technology and advanced manufacturing.
Rather than producing designs that are simply handed over to another team, you will have visibility across the complete engineering lifecycle – from structural development and BIM coordination through manufacturing, fabrication and construction.
You will be joining an established and well-funded organization that is investing heavily in modern methods of construction and the development of scalable residential building systems.
