Senior Attorney / Partner – Complex Federal Litigation

A nationally recognized litigation firm is seeking a Senior Attorney or Partner to join its growing litigation practice. The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience managing sophisticated federal cases from inception through resolution, including extensive deposition practice, motion work, strategic case development, settlement negotiations, and trial advocacy. Candidates with first-chair trial experience are strongly preferred.

Position Overview

This role offers the opportunity to handle significant litigation matters involving constitutional claims, governmental liability, personal injury, catastrophic injury, mass tort, and other complex plaintiff-side litigation. Attorneys in this position work collaboratively with a highly accomplished team while maintaining substantial independence in managing their cases.

The successful candidate will oversee all phases of litigation, including:

• Case investigation and evaluation
• Drafting pleadings and dispositive motions
• Managing written discovery
• Taking and defending depositions
• Working with expert witnesses
• Developing litigation strategy
• Conducting settlement negotiations and mediations
• Trial preparation and courtroom advocacy
• Collaborating with co-counsel and litigation teams nationwide

The position will also involve mentoring junior attorneys and legal staff, contributing to business development efforts, and assisting in the evaluation of prospective cases.

Qualifications

Required

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
• Admission to the Illinois Bar (or ability to obtain admission)
• 5+ years of complex civil litigation experience
• Significant experience litigating in federal court
• Extensive deposition experience, including both taking and defending depositions
• Strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage a substantial caseload
• Excellent interpersonal and client-relations skills

Preferred

• 7-10+ years of litigation experience
• Trial experience, including first-chair responsibilities
• Experience handling Section 1983, constitutional law, civil rights, ADA, Monell, or similar federal litigation matters
• Experience with class actions, mass torts, or other complex litigation
• Prior experience supervising attorneys, paralegals, or litigation staff
• Portable business and/or demonstrated business development success

Compensation

In addition to base compensation, attorneys participate in a highly lucrative fee-sharing structure that rewards work performed on cases as well as case origination. Total compensation is not capped and offers substantial upside for high-performing attorneys.
