Full job description
Controller — General Contractor / CM Firm (Full Time - In Office Required)
Compensation: $140,000 – $180,000 annually, commensurate with experience
We are a well-established luxury residential renovation company building distinctive, custom residences for a discerning clientele. We're seeking an independent, can-do, take-charge financial professional to lead our accounting and finance function as a Controller.
This is a hands-on role with real ownership of the entire finance function, working directly with the executive team and the owner. With approximately 50 employees and an active portfolio of complex, multi-phase custom projects, you will be the senior finance leader in the company.
Our ERP is Acumatica, with supporting integrations including GCPay (subcontractor billing, lien waivers, and compliance) and WorkMax (mobile time tracking and labor cost capture). Acumatica Construction Edition experience is strongly preferred.
What You'll Own
• Full-charge bookkeeping: GL, AP, AR, in-house payroll, month-end close, and account reconciliations
• Cash management, including rolling quarterly cash flow projections, weekly cash position reporting, and banking relationships
• Job cost accounting, monthly WIP schedules, and reconciliation of job cost and WIP to the GL
• AIA progress billing, retainage tracking, change order accounting, and subcontractor compliance through various software tracking platforms
• Timely monthly financial statements at the company and job level, plus annual budgeting and reforecasting
• Sales/use tax filings, insurance compliance, audits, and coordination with our outside CPA firm
• Acumatica administration and ongoing process and internal control improvements
What We're Looking For
• 5+ years of progressive construction accounting experience
• Experience as a Controller running an accounting function end-to-end
• Strong knowledge of Financial Reporting, Job cost accounting, WIP reporting, AIA billing
• Hands-on Acumatica experience; Sage Intacct, or other similar systems considered
• Familiarity with construction integrations such as GCPay, WorkMax, Procore, or similar AP and time tracking tools
• Advanced Excel skills
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
What You'll Bring
• A hands-on operator's mindset — comfortable doing the work, not just reviewing it
• Discretion with confidential and sensitive financial information
• Strong communication skills with executives, staff, and outside professionals (CPAs, bankers, brokers, attorneys)
• Proactive problem-solver who anticipates issues and brings solutions
What We Offer
• Base salary of $140,000 – $160,000
• Health insurance
• 401(k) retirement plan
• Employer-paid life insurance
• Paid time off and recognized holidays
• Direct exposure to executives and ownership, and the chance to shape the finance function of a growing luxury renovation firm
