Full job description

Wick is managing this role search directly and is not accepting unsolicited submissions from any recruiters or hiring agencies.

Wick Companies is seeking an accomplished Construction Superintendent to lead Class A commercial interior and tenant fit-out projects throughout New Jersey.

This is a hands-on field leadership position for a Superintendent who takes complete ownership of the jobsite, anticipates problems, holds subcontractors accountable and maintains exacting standards for quality, safety and organization.

Wick is an established New Jersey owner/developer with a long history of building and managing its own real estate portfolio. Our integrated structure allows the Superintendent to work directly with project management, company ownership and other key decision makers.

The Superintendent will typically oversee one primary project at a time, managing it from project startup through final completion and closeout. The position will initially focus on Class A commercial interiors and tenant fit-outs. As Wick’s development portfolio grows, there may also be opportunities to oversee multifamily or mixed-use construction in the future. Prior multifamily experience is welcome but is not required.

Compensation and Benefits

$130,000 to $160,000, depending on experience, qualifications and project history, paid time off, health insurance and additional benefits.

Responsibilities

• Lead all day-to-day onsite construction activities from project startup through completion and closeout.

• Coordinate and supervise subcontractors to maintain quality, productivity and schedule.

• Maintain a safe, clean and professionally organized jobsite while ensuring compliance with OSHA and applicable regulations.

• Review construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings and submittals to ensure work is completed according to plan.

• Coordinate architectural finishes, millwork, ceilings, flooring, glass, doors and hardware, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and life-safety systems.

• Manage daily site logistics, deliveries, trade sequencing and work within occupied buildings when applicable.

• Coordinate inspections with municipal officials, design professionals and project consultants.

• Identify and resolve field conflicts before they affect quality, schedule or budget.

• Develop and maintain project schedules, look-ahead schedules and critical milestones.

• Communicate project progress, scheduling updates and potential challenges clearly and promptly with the Project Manager and ownership.

• Monitor finish quality throughout construction rather than waiting until the end of the project to address deficiencies.

• Manage punch-list work, inspections, turnover documentation and project closeout.

• Foster strong working relationships with subcontractors, vendors, consultants and inspectors.

• Deliver projects safely, professionally, on schedule and to Wick’s quality standards.

Qualifications

• Seven or more years of commercial construction experience, including significant experience as the lead Superintendent on Class A commercial interior or tenant fit-out projects.

• Demonstrated success delivering high-quality, schedule-driven projects from mobilization through punch list and closeout.

• Strong knowledge of commercial interior construction, trade sequencing, MEP coordination and finish-quality control.

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, submittals and contract documents.

• Proven ability to coordinate multiple trades and manage subcontractor performance.

• Strong scheduling, organizational, leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

• Working knowledge of Procore and Microsoft Office, with the ability to use tablets, smartphones and digital construction documents.

• Professional and confident when communicating with ownership, tenants, design professionals, subcontractors and municipal officials.

• Self-motivated and able to work independently while collaborating effectively with project management and ownership.

• Knowledge of New Jersey building codes, safety requirements and construction practices is preferred.

• Multifamily, mixed-use or ground-up construction experience is a plus but is not required.
