About the Role

Our client, a well-established commercial HVAC and mechanical contractor, is seeking an experienced Director of Service to lead and grow its commercial service division. This leadership role oversees all aspects of the service business, including operations, financial performance, customer relationships, technician development, preventive maintenance agreements, and business growth.

The ideal candidate is a proven commercial HVAC service leader with strong operational, financial, and people management experience who can drive profitability while delivering exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all commercial HVAC service operations.
  • Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain a high-performing team of service technicians and support staff.
  • Drive sales growth through preventive maintenance agreements, repairs, and customer relationship development.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.
  • Manage departmental P&L, budgets, profitability, and financial reporting.
  • Improve technician utilization, billable hours, and overall operational efficiency.
  • Oversee scheduling, dispatch, inventory, fleet coordination, payroll, and service workflows.
  • Review service tickets for quality, billing accuracy, repair opportunities, and follow-up work.
  • Develop technician training programs and promote continuous professional development.
  • Collaborate with project managers, finance, operations, and executive leadership to achieve company objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety standards and industry best practices.
  • Handle customer escalations and ensure exceptional service delivery.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of commercial HVAC service experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing commercial HVAC service operations.
  • Strong background managing HVAC service technicians, dispatch, and support teams.
  • Demonstrated experience growing service revenue and preventive maintenance agreements.
  • Solid understanding of commercial HVAC systems, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Experience managing departmental budgets, P&L, KPIs, and operational performance.
  • Strong customer relationship management and business development skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with service management software and Microsoft Office.
  • Connecticut S-2 License is highly preferred (or the ability to obtain one).
