Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Estimating Engineer role based in Escondido, CA. The Estimating Engineer will prepare detailed quantity take-offs for heavy civil, transportation, pipeline, and related infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include analyzing drawings and specifications, developing accurate cost estimates, and assisting in bid preparation and proposal documentation. The role involves coordinating with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather pricing, clarify scope, and support negotiation of bids and contracts. The Estimating Engineer will perform market and technical research to validate cost assumptions, maintain updated cost databases, and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Strong skills in preparation and project estimation for civil and heavy civil construction projects.
- Solid foundation in civil engineering principles and practical application on infrastructure projects.
- Negotiation and communication skills for coordinating with vendors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
- Research and analytical skills for reviewing plans, specifications, and market data to support accurate estimates.
- Experience with estimating software HeavyBid and MS Office (Excel in particular) for cost modeling and data analysis.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of transportation, pipeline, and heavy civil construction methods and materials is highly beneficial.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in an on-site team setting and maintain a professional, safety-conscious mindset.
