As Estimating Manager, you will oversee the estimating function, strengthen bidding processes, and collaborate closely with project teams, owners, subcontractors, and field operations. This is an opportunity to lead a high-performing team while shaping accurate, competitive estimates for complex electrical construction projects.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and hold the estimating team accountable to company standards, deadlines, and performance expectations.
- Coordinate with owners, project managers, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to resolve technical matters throughout planning, negotiation, and contract execution.
- Review estimator budgets, establish bid review processes, and prepare accurate final bids.
- Analyze labor, materials, equipment, location, and other cost factors to develop timely and competitive estimates.
- Evaluate alternative construction methods and pricing strategies to improve bid competitiveness.
- Ensure appropriate subcontractor coverage on bid day and maintain effective subcontractor relationships.
- Assess project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and communicate potential construction obstacles and solutions.
- Communicate estimate details and project scope to field operations during pre-construction meetings.
- Complete estimates from initial review through final submission with minimal oversight.
- Train, mentor, and review estimating staff while promoting accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.
- Engage with operations to evaluate project details and understand how operational decisions affect the budget.
- Negotiate effectively with clients and support successful contract execution.
Must-Have Skills:
- Minimum five years of estimating experience with responsibilities comparable to this role.
- Strong knowledge of construction practices, electrical construction, and applicable scopes of work.
- Working knowledge and comprehension of construction plans and specifications.
- Experience developing estimates and performing cost analysis for labor, materials, equipment, and other project factors.
- Knowledge of various construction pricing models and estimating methodologies.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with effective negotiation capabilities.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to train, mentor, delegate, and hold team members accountable.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in construction or a related discipline.
- Proficiency with electrical estimating tools such as Accubid.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience overseeing an estimating department or leading a construction estimating team.
- Background coordinating with owners, subcontractors, project managers, and field operations.
- Experience leading formal estimate review meetings and pre-construction handoffs.
- Familiarity with historical cost databases and using cost history to validate estimates.
- Experience evaluating alternative means, construction methods, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Strong understanding of construction management processes from preconstruction through project execution.
- Experience with commercial electrical construction projects and comprehensive trade scopes.
- Ability to promote a culture centered on accountability, performance, customer service, and continuous improvement.
