NEW IN – Employment Litigation Associate | 4–5 Years | High-Stakes Matters | Plaintiff + Defense | No Billable Requirement | San Francisco

I'm currently working with a nationally recognised litigation practice that is looking to add an Employment Litigation Associate to its San Francisco team. This is a strong opportunity for an attorney who wants high-stakes employment litigation, direct client exposure and meaningful responsibility on lean teams, while also developing the counseling side of their practice.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Both Sides of the V – Handle employment matters for both plaintiffs and defendants, giving you exposure to the full spectrum of employment disputes rather than being locked into one side.
  • High-Stakes, High-Visibility Matters – Work on complex disputes involving significant financial and reputational exposure, including executive disputes, wage-and-hour actions and sensitive workplace matters.
  • No Firm-Wide Billable Requirement – Develop your practice without being tied to a set annual billable-hour target.
  • Lean Teams, Real Responsibility – Work closely with partners on significant matters and take ownership of key workstreams as your experience develops.
  • Litigation + Counseling – Build experience across employment litigation, compliance, investigations, risk mitigation and strategic personnel decisions, giving you a broader employment practice than a pure litigation role.
  • Executive-Level Exposure – Work on employment matters involving executives and senior professionals, including compensation, equity, separation agreements and restrictive covenants.
  • National Platform, Boutique Feel – Be part of a nationally active practice while working in lean teams where associates can have visible roles on significant matters.

The Role

  • Manage employment litigation matters with increasing independence.
  • Handle single-plaintiff disputes, wage-and-hour class and representative actions, executive disputes, restrictive covenant matters and employment-related trade secret issues.
  • Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery and substantive briefs.
  • Conduct and defend depositions and support hearings, mediations and settlement conferences.
  • Advise employers and employees on employment disputes, compliance and risk.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and support internal employment assessments.
  • Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel and agency representatives.
  • Take ownership of key workstreams and contribute to case strategy.

About You

  • 4–5 years of litigation experience in state and/or federal court.
  • Employment litigation experience required.
  • Experience with dispositive motions and discovery management.
  • Strong research, writing and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of California employment law and civil procedure.
  • Active California Bar admission in good standing.
  • Strong credentials and attendance at a good law school.
  • Comfortable handling complex employment disputes and counseling matters.
  • Interest in building a long-term career and developing a practice.
  • Familiarity with legal AI tools is a plus.

Location

  • San Francisco, California

Package

  • Up to $175,000 base salary, depending on experience and qualifications
  • No firm-wide billable-hour requirement
  • Potential partnership opportunity

If you're an Employment litigator looking for high-stakes matters, real responsibility, direct client exposure and the opportunity to build both your litigation and counseling practice, I'd love to speak with you.
