Payroll Specialist

Location: Oakdale, CA

Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site

Compensation: $35.00–$45.00 per hour, depending on experience


Position Overview

This position plays an important role in supporting both field and office employees by ensuring payroll is processed accurately, timely and in compliance with applicable requirements. The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable working with detailed and confidential information and committed to accuracy and follow-through.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process payroll accurately and within established deadlines
  • Review employee timekeeping information for accuracy and completeness
  • Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies, missing information and timekeeping issues
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records, deductions, adjustments and related documentation
  • Process payroll changes including new hires, terminations, wage changes, deductions and employee updates
  • Ensure payroll practices comply with applicable federal, state and local wage and hour requirements
  • Assist with payroll reporting, reconciliations and recordkeeping
  • Respond to employee payroll questions professionally and in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with HR, accounting, supervisors and other departments regarding payroll-related matters
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee, payroll and company information
  • Assist with workers’ compensation reporting, audits and other payroll-related requests as needed
  • Maintain organized and accurate payroll documentation
  • Stay current on applicable payroll regulations and compliance requirements
  • Provide additional payroll, accounting and administrative support as needed


Qualifications

  • Previous payroll processing experience required
  • Strong knowledge of payroll practices and recordkeeping
  • Familiarity with California wage and hour requirements preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to identify discrepancies, research issues and provide timely resolutions
  • Ability to meet recurring payroll deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Experience with payroll, HRIS and/or timekeeping software
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive employee information with discretion
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors and management


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous payroll experience within the construction industry or another field-based workforce environment
  • Experience processing payroll for multiple departments or employee groups
  • Experience supporting payroll-related reporting, audits and reconciliations
  • Familiarity with payroll processes involving both field and office employees
