Role Description The Project Superintendent is a full-time, on-site role based in San Diego, CA, responsible for leading day-to-day field operations on commercial construction projects. This position oversees site activities, coordinates trade partners and vendors, and ensures work is completed according to plans, specifications, and schedule. The superintendent enforces safety standards, manages quality control inspections, and monitors progress to address issues proactively. Daily responsibilities include supervising field staff, conducting site meetings, maintaining project documentation, and collaborating with project managers on budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation. The role also requires regular communication with clients and stakeholders to support smooth project delivery and a positive project experience.
Qualifications
- Strong supervisory skills with experience leading field teams and coordinating subcontractors.
- Hands-on experience in commercial construction, including ground-up and/or tenant improvement projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in quality control, ensuring adherence to plans, specifications, and industry standards.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction safety practices, OSHA requirements, and site safety programs.
- Proficiency in budgeting, cost control, and working with project managers to track project financials.
- Experience with construction scheduling software and project management tools.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, design teams, and trade partners.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Prior experience as a superintendent or foreperson on commercial projects; multi-project or multi-phase experience is beneficial.
- High school diploma required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, construction safety training) are a plus.
