Full job description
We are seeking an experienced Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) to provide comprehensive bedside care to adult patients, including pre- and post-operative patients, in an acute or post-acute setting. The RN will assess patient conditions, develop and implement individualized care plans, administer medications and treatments, monitor patient status, and collaborate with the healthcare team to support safe and effective outcomes. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of recent Med/Surg experience, strong clinical assessment skills, and hands-on experience with IV therapy, wound care, post-operative care, and telemetry monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
- Provide direct and individualized bedside nursing care to pre- and post-operative patients.
- Perform comprehensive physical assessments and monitor patient conditions.
- Prepare, administer, and accurately document prescribed medications.
- Initiate and maintain IV therapy, including starting IVs as required.
- Perform wound care, dressing changes, and infection-control procedures.
- Insert and manage urinary catheters according to clinical protocols.
- Monitor vital signs and recognize changes in patient condition.
- Monitor telemetry and interpret relevant patient measurements.
- Assess patients for adverse reactions to medications and treatments and promptly report significant findings.
- Operate and adjust specialized medical equipment as required.
- Educate patients and families regarding procedures, medications, treatment plans, and post-operative care.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding patient care.
- Participate in discharge planning and coordinate appropriate follow-up care.
- Maintain accurate and current patient charts, medical records, and nursing documentation.
- Follow established nursing standards, evidence-based practices, safety procedures, and clinical protocols.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience required.
- Most recent Med/Surg experience must be within the past year.
- Experience in a large acute-care hospital setting preferred for acute facilities.
- Post-acute candidates may have Med/Surg experience in a post-acute facility or acute-care hospital.
- Strong skills in: Physical assessment, Medication administration, Wound care and infection control, IV therapy, post-operative care, Patient education, Telemetry monitoring
- EPIC EMR experience preferred.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited institution required.
- Current New York State RN License with Primary Source Verification required.
- AHA BLS certification required.
- AHA ACLS certification required.
- Strong communication, clinical judgment, organization, and patient-care skills.
Important Details:
- 14-week contract position
- Shift is 11.5 hrs/day (7:30 AM-8:00 PM), 34.5 hrs/week
- Location is New York, NY 10037
- Pay Rate for Locals: $54 - $58 Hourly
- Pay Rate for Travelers: $2,250 - $2,300 Weekly
