Role: Safety Manager - Santa Clara Data Center

Pay Range: $55-$65 an hour W2

Per Diem: $150 for every day worked in a week

Schedule:

Monday - Friday 6 am - 2:30 pm (some overtime occasionally, but calculate this on a 40-hour work week)

Contract Length: 6 months (Definitely an opportunity for this to be longer)

Project Location: Santa Clara, CA

Project Details:

New data center build-out. Anticipated craftspeople count ~100. May work with one other safety, but likely the main safety for this project. Will be interacting with client and supers, so will have manager-level responsibilities, but will also be required to be in the field.

Requirements:

• OSHA 30 or OSHA 500/510 (construction)
• Minimum 4 years Commercial Construction Experience IN SAFETY
• Needs to be clean-cut, strong communicator, executive presence

Highly Preferred Qualifications:

• CHST or BCSP
• Experience in Electrical Construction Safety
• Experience in Data Center Construction Safety
• Experience managing multiple sites
• Experience doing actual full incident investigations start to finish

Job Overview

The Safety Manager leads the planning, implementation, and enforcement of safety programs across assigned construction projects or regions. This position provides field leadership in hazard identification, risk assessment, regulatory compliance, high-risk work, and incident management.

The Safety Manager is accountable for overall safety performance, field compliance, and the development and oversight of Safety Coordinators.

Key Responsibilities

Hazard Identification & Risk Management

• Lead hazard identification and risk assessments across assigned projects.
• Evaluate work scopes and establish appropriate controls using the hierarchy of controls.
• Direct corrective actions and verify their effectiveness.
• Exercise stop-work authority when conditions or behaviors present imminent risk.

High-Risk Work Oversight

Review and approve high-risk work plans, permits, and procedures involving:

• Fall protection systems
• Energized electrical work and LOTO
• MEWP and crane/lifting operations
• Confined space entry
• Excavation, trenching, and shoring
• Other complex or hazardous construction activities

Incident Management & Investigation

• Lead incident response and investigations.
• Determine root causes and contributing factors using structured investigation methods.
• Develop and track corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Prepare reports and communicate findings to leadership.
• Interface with regulatory agencies, insurance representatives, and external stakeholders when required.

Field Leadership & Team Development

• Provide safety leadership and direction to field supervision and project teams.
• Coach foremen, superintendents, and project personnel on hazard recognition and control.
• Address safety non-compliance and behavioral concerns.
• Mentor and develop Safety Coordinators through coaching and performance feedback.
• Support onboarding, toolbox talks, and other safety discussions.

Compliance, Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain compliance with applicable state OSHA regulations, company safety programs, and site-specific requirements.
• Review safety documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Analyze safety trends, leading indicators, and field data to identify areas of risk.
• Develop corrective strategies and report safety performance to leadership.
• Participate in audits and inspections.

Operational Collaboration

• Partner with project management and operations to integrate safety into work planning, scheduling, sequencing, and execution.
• Participate in pre-construction planning and project risk assessments.
• Coordinate safety expectations with subcontractors and other project stakeholders.

Required

• Valid, insurable driver's license
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification
• Strong knowledge of construction safety practices, hazard controls, and applicable state OSHA regulations
• Demonstrated ability to assess risk and implement effective controls
• Experience leading incident investigations and root-cause analysis
• Strong leadership, communication, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills
• Ability to influence field operations and enforce safety requirements
• Proficiency with safety management systems, documentation, and reporting tools.

Preferred

• OSHA 30 or OSHA 500 Construction
• CHST or other BCSP certification, or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire
• Experience in electrical, industrial, commercial, or renewable-energy construction
• Formal incident-investigation training
• Experience supporting multiple projects or geographic areas.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Degree or coursework in safety, construction management, or a related field preferred
• Typically 5+ years of construction or safety-related experience
• Progressive experience in field safety roles with increasing leadership responsibility.

Physical & Work Environment

• Regular standing, walking, climbing, bending, and movement throughout active construction sites
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
• Comfortable working at elevated locations and outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Regular use of required PPE
• Work may occur on commercial, industrial, electrical, or renewable-energy construction sites with exposure to noise, dust, moving equipment, uneven terrain, and multiple simultaneous operations
