Senior Project Manager – Data Center Construction | Chicago, IL


Overview

A fast-growing design-build contractor specializing exclusively in the planning, construction, and maintenance of mission-critical data centers is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the end-to-end delivery of complex data center projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of mission-critical data center projects — defining scope, developing project plans, schedules, and budgets, and ensuring full compliance with specifications, codes, safety standards, and quality expectations from mobilization through closeout
  • Coordinate cross-functional project teams spanning mechanical, electrical, structural, controls, commissioning, and field operations — driving accountability, communication, and performance across all disciplines
  • Serve as the primary client point of contact — building trust through proactive communication, managing expectations, resolving issues, and representing the company in meetings, presentations, and negotiations
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks — developing contingency plans and maintaining a proactive approach to protecting schedule, budget, and quality throughout the project lifecycle
  • Manage project budgets end-to-end — monitoring financial performance, tracking cost forecasts, reporting on variances, and managing procurement, vendor negotiations, contracts, and change orders
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to safety, quality, and schedule requirements across all active work fronts
  • Maintain accurate and organised project documentation — including drawings, submittals, RFIs, permits, meeting minutes, and as-builts — throughout the full project lifecycle
  • Mentor and develop project engineers, field leads, and junior team members — contributing to a high-performance project culture built on continuous improvement and professional growth


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field - or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of project management experience in mission-critical, data center, or large-scale infrastructure construction.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, structural, and commissioning systems (HVAC, power distribution, cooling, controls).
  • Proficiency with project management software (MS Project, Primavera, etc.) and standard business tools (Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
