Job opening
Director of Estimating
Full job description
Cacy Electric is looking for an exceptional Director of Estimating to lead one of the most critical functions in our organization.
We are a full-service electrical contractor headquartered in El Cajon, California, with projects throughout California. We specialize in commercial, military, public works, industrial, and private sector electrical construction.
Our reputation is built on quality workmanship, integrity, safety, and long-term customer relationships. We invest in our employees, support our field teams, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
This is not a traditional Chief Estimator position.
We are seeking a strategic leader who can transform preconstruction into a competitive advantage—someone who understands that every successful project begins long before the first electrician arrives on site.
You'll lead our estimating department, drive pursuit strategy, mentor estimators, improve systems, and partner directly with executive leadership to ensure we pursue the right projects, price them accurately, manage risk effectively, and hand off winning projects positioned for success.
If you're passionate about building high-performing teams, improving processes, and winning complex electrical projects, we'd like to speak with you.
As Director of Estimating, you'll oversee every aspect of the estimating process.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead and mentor the estimating team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Develop bid strategies that align with company goals, market conditions, and risk tolerance.
- Direct the complete estimating process from opportunity evaluation through project turnover.
- Review plans, specifications, contracts, addenda, bridging documents, and design criteria.
- Prepare and oversee detailed estimates including labor, material, equipment, subcontractors, vendor pricing, and indirect costs.
- Conduct executive bid reviews and Go/No-Go evaluations.
- Lead value engineering and constructability reviews.
- Identify scope gaps, design conflicts, procurement challenges, and project risks before bid submission.
- Establish estimating standards, historical cost databases, production rates, templates, and quality control procedures.
- Coordinate closely with Operations, Project Management, Purchasing, and Executive Leadership throughout the preconstruction process.
- Support project teams after award to ensure a seamless transition from estimate to execution.
- Evaluate market trends, subcontractor relationships, procurement strategies, and emerging technologies that improve estimating accuracy and competitiveness.
Required Experience
- 10+ years of electrical estimating experience.
- 5+ years leading estimating teams or departments.
- Extensive experience with Federal and Military electrical construction.
- Demonstrated Design-Build estimating experience.
- Strong understanding of:
NAVFAC
USACE
Federal Acquisition requirements
California Public Works
- Experience managing complex electrical projects exceeding $10M.
- Proven leadership experience developing estimators and improving departmental performance.
Technical Qualifications
- Accubid Anywhere (preferred)
- Bluebeam
- Procore
- Microsoft Excel (advanced)
- Microsoft 365
- Foundation or similar ERP systems
Experience leveraging estimating technology, databases, automation, or AI tools is highly desirable.
The Ideal Candidate
You are a leader first and an estimator second.
You naturally:
- Build systems instead of relying on heroics.
- Think strategically rather than tactically.
- Challenge assumptions before bid day.
- See risk before others recognize it.
- Make data-driven decisions.
- Develop people and hold teams accountable.
- Communicate effectively with executives, owners, design teams, and operations.
- Balance competitiveness with long-term profitability.
- Continuously improve processes, workflows, and estimating standards.
You'll report directly to executive leadership and have the opportunity to shape the future of preconstruction within a growing electrical contractor.
If you've successfully led estimating teams, understand the complexities of federal and design-build electrical construction, and are ready to influence company strategy from the earliest stages of every project, we encourage you to apply.
Please submit your resume along with a brief summary of your experience in federal/military and design-build electrical estimating.
Direct applicants only. No recruiters or staffing agencies.
