Position: Staff Pharmacist
Location: Long Island City, NY 11106
Job Type: Contract
Contract: 20 weeks
Schedule: Initial Training: Monday–Friday | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Following Training: Rotating 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM and 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM shifts with advance notice
Guaranteed Hours per Week: 37.5
Pay: Up to $75/hour
Job Summary
Pride Health is seeking a qualified Staff Pharmacist for a contract opportunity with a leading cancer care organization in Long Island City, NY. Under general supervision, the Pharmacist will provide safe and appropriate medication therapy to adult and pediatric patients by thoroughly screening physician orders, accurately entering orders into the computer system, monitoring drug therapy, recommending medication adjustments, and compounding and dispensing medications. The Pharmacist will also supervise pharmacy technician activities and serve as a drug information resource for healthcare professionals and patients.
Responsibilities
- Review and accurately process physician medication orders for adult and pediatric patients.
- Evaluate patient charts and relevant clinical information, including diagnoses, medication history, allergies, BSA, procedures, and complications.
- Monitor patient drug therapy, laboratory results, and test results to identify potential medication-related issues.
- Recommend appropriate changes to medication therapy when clinically indicated.
- Identify and follow up on omissions, discrepancies, therapeutic duplications, and other medication-related concerns.
- Accurately enter and maintain patient medication profiles, including drug, dose, fluid volume, special instructions, precautions, allergies, height, and weight.
- Compound and dispense medications accurately and safely.
- Apply knowledge of drug regimens and disease states to support appropriate pharmacotherapy.
- Initiate appropriate practice regimens according to established clinical guidelines.
- Monitor cumulative doses for selected medications when applicable.
- Document clinical interventions in patient profiles throughout the day.
- Manage unused or missing doses and resolve medication discrepancies.
- Provide direct supervision of pharmacy technician duties.
- Serve as a drug information resource for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, other healthcare professionals, and patients.
- Apply knowledge of investigational drug processes and protocols as needed.
- Participate in research projects, educational presentations, departmental committees, and special projects as requested.
- Prioritize clinical responsibilities and maintain compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited school required.
- Valid Pharmacist License in the state of practice required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Senior-level computer skills and proficiency with pharmacy information systems.
- Strong clinical knowledge and attention to detail.
- Ability to accurately screen medication orders, monitor drug therapy, and safely compound and dispense medications.
- English proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hospital or clinical pharmacy experience.
- Experience working with adult and pediatric patient populations.
- Experience in oncology, investigational drugs, or specialty pharmacy practice.
- Experience with clinical interventions and medication therapy monitoring.
- ASHP Board Certification or other pharmacy specialty certification.
- Research, publication, presentation, or professional association experience.
- Experience supervising pharmacy technicians or participating in departmental committees and special projects.
