Assistant Superintendent – General Contractor

Location: Chicago, IL

Experience: 1–3 Years

Position: Full-Time


About the Opportunity


A well-established general contractor in the Chicago area is looking to add an Assistant Superintendent to its field team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their construction career who already has field experience and wants to develop into a Superintendent.

You’ll work directly alongside the Superintendent and gain hands-on exposure to every phase of construction, including field coordination, scheduling, subcontractor management, safety, quality control, and site logistics.


Responsibilities

  • Support the Superintendent with daily field operations and execution of the project schedule.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, workforce activity, equipment deliveries, and site logistics.
  • Track jobsite activity and maintain accurate documentation in Procore.
  • Conduct worker safety orientations and daily/weekly safety inspections.
  • Identify safety concerns and ensure subcontractor compliance with jobsite requirements.
  • Maintain an organized, professional, and safe jobsite.
  • Assist with coordination meetings, daily reports, field documentation, and progress photos.
  • Coordinate temporary facilities, dumpsters, water service, fencing, signage, and other site logistics.
  • Assist with erosion control, stormwater management, SWPPP documentation, and environmental compliance.
  • Support quality-control inspections and ensure work meets project standards and contract requirements.


Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of construction industry experience.
  • 1+ year of construction field experience.
  • Degree or certificate in Construction Management, Design, or a related field.
  • Experience with Procore and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive mentality with a willingness to learn and take on additional responsibility.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and team-oriented approach.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and access to a vehicle.


Additional Information

This is a field-based position with minimal travel. The ideal candidate is someone who wants to build a long-term career in field leadership and progressively take on more responsibility with the goal of becoming a Superintendent.
