Superintendent

A leading heavy civil contractor is seeking an experienced Superintendent to oversee field operations on major bridge projects in Rockford, Illinois. The Superintendent will be responsible for safely and efficiently coordinating crews, subcontractors, equipment, materials, and daily construction activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily field operations for major bridge construction and rehabilitation projects.
• Coordinate company crews, subcontractors, suppliers, and equipment.
• Oversee bridge foundations, structural concrete, steel erection, bridge decks, demolition, temporary works, and roadway tie-ins.
• Develop short-term schedules and two- to three-week look-ahead plans.
• Monitor safety, quality, productivity, manpower, materials, and project progress.
• Review drawings, specifications, RFIs, and construction work plans.
• Coordinate with project management, engineers, owners, inspectors, and agency representatives.
• Maintain accurate daily reports and assist with quantity tracking and change-order documentation.
• Ensure work complies with OSHA, contract, and transportation-agency requirements.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of heavy civil construction experience.
• Proven experience managing major bridge projects is required.
• Previous experience as a Superintendent or Structures Superintendent.
• Strong knowledge of bridge construction methods, sequencing, foundations, structural concrete, and steel erection.
• Ability to read and interpret civil and structural drawings and specifications.
• Strong leadership, scheduling, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• DOT or other publicly funded transportation project experience preferred.
• OSHA 30 and experience in a union environment are advantageous.
• Ability to work on-site in Rockford, including nights or weekends when project schedules require.
